Emergency Rental Assistance Needed for Families Impacted by ICE Detention
Today, we are asking for your help.
Four families are facing an immediate housing crisis because their loved ones remain in ICE detention. When a parent or spouse is detained, the family’s income often disappears overnight, leaving children and caregivers struggling to survive.
Current Emergency Needs:
Family 1 – Newark, NJ
$925 needed
A spouse is struggling to keep the family housed after her husband has been detained for 12 months. One missed payment could mean eviction.
Family 2 – Long Branch, NJ
$2,286 needed
A mother and her 9-year-old child are trying to survive after the family’s primary provider has been detained for nearly a year. This assistance will keep them safely in their home.
Family 3
$3,200 needed
A mother and her three children, including one child with significant medical complications, have fallen two months behind on rent. This father has been detained for seven months. Without immediate help, they face the devastating possibility of eviction.
Family 4 – Irvington, NJ
$1,500 needed
A family with a 15-month-old baby is fighting to remain housed while the father has been detained for five months. No child should have to lose their home because a parent has been taken away.
Total Emergency Rental Assistance Needed: $7,911
Behind every detention case is a family fighting an invisible battle. Mothers are working multiple jobs, borrowing money, skipping meals, and making impossible choices between rent, food, diapers, medicine, and utilities. Their children carry the emotional burden of missing a parent while living with the constant fear of losing their home. When someone is detained, the consequences extend far beyond the detention center walls. Entire families are left in crisis.
These are more than rent payments, they are children staying in their homes, mothers finding a moment to breathe, and families holding onto hope while fighting to reunite with their loved ones.
No child or family should face homelessness because a parent or a loved one is in immigration detention.
Every donation, no matter the amount, helps keep a family safely housed. If you are unable to give, please share this fundraiser. Your kindness can provide stability, dignity, and hope during one of the most difficult times in these families’ lives.
❤️❤️❤️From all of us at the Mami Chelo Foundation and from the families you are helping, THANK YOU for standing with our immigrant community❤️❤️❤️
