Hope for Atlas: A Journey of Heart

On June 7, Atlas was born at just 36 weeks due to complications from preeclampsia. He came into the world small but mighty, spending his first precious hours in our arms. But by that evening, everything changed.

What began as routine care for low blood sugar and jaundice turned urgent when doctors noticed signs of heart failure. Within hours, Atlas was transferred from our local hospital to Akron Children’s NICU, where he was diagnosed with a rare and complex congenital heart condition: Shone’s Complex, including coarctation of the aorta and a defect in his mitral valve.

He was only two days old.

After stabilizing in Akron, Atlas was transferred again—this time to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital—for his first open-heart surgery on June 20. Surgeons worked to repair his aortic arch and mitral valve. We were hopeful. But five days later, the repair failed.

A second surgery was scheduled for July 7, then delayed twice—first due to a bloodstream infection, then because his temperature dropped too low. Finally, on July 22, Atlas underwent a mitral valve replacement.

Right now, Atlas is recovering, fighting, and healing. But the road ahead is long and uncertain. His new valve may only last a year. If he’s healthy enough, we hope to get him on the heart transplant list, for a mitral valve transplant. If not, doctors will have to place a mechanical valve that will need replacing every few years as he grows.

We are raising funds to help cover travel, lodging, and long-term medical expenses—not just for this year, but for the journey ahead.

If you’re able to give, we’re deeply grateful. And if you can’t, please consider sharing Atlas’s story. Every bit of love, support and prayers matter.

With hope and love,

Our Family

A joyful update from our family:

After 95 long and uncertain days, we are overjoyed to share that our family of four is finally together at home. We can’t fully express how much your generosity has meant—every donation, every share of this page, every thought and prayer has lifted us.

There’s still a journey ahead. We expect to be back on the transplant list within the year, and we’re taking things one step at a time. For now, we’re focusing on rest, recovery, and being together. Thank you for standing with us—your support has truly been a lifeline.

With love and gratitude,

Our family

Atlas our heart warrior – 2 Months Old 🎉

Our sweet Atlas turned 2 months old! Even in the middle of hospital life, he’s reaching for things with his little hands, following our faces with his eyes, and even trying to coo when he can (though it’s tricky with the respiratory help). These small moments mean the world to us.

We are officially a little over two weeks post-op and getting stronger each day. After his surgery on July 22nd, Atlas faced a few complications, including a brain bleed. Thankfully, it was caught quickly and has remained stable. His left lung also collapsed due to a compressed airway, requiring the breathing tube to go back in for a time. After treatment, the swelling improved, and he’s now back on CPAP. Over the next few days, we’ll carefully trial him off all respiratory support, switching between CPAP and high-flow oxygen to keep his lung safe. His heart echo today showed slight regurgitation.

Our little warrior keeps proving his reseilence. Each day he continues showing off that strength and continued healing.

We are so deeply grateful to everyone who has donated, prayed, and sent love. You’ve lifted us in ways we can’t put into words. If you can, please share this link so more people can join Atlas’ fight. Every prayer, every share, and every dollar truly matters. ❤️‍🩹

Thank you for being part of Atlas’ village!!
