One year after walking into his home and appallingly finding his own mother slain victim of a tragic double homicide committed by her estranged ex-husband. Devin Sims at 17 years of age was wrongly convicted of a felony murder and sentenced to a term of 32 to 60 years imprisonment credited all to and solely upon a knowingly false testimony given by the only prosecution witness Robert Grant. Mr. Robert Grant has recanted his statement and admitted to a false testimony in which was used as evidence to prosecute and convict Mr. Sims.
Devon Sims (17 years old) Was contacted by Mr. Robert Grant In which offered to pick him up to stay the night at his (Grant’s) home on the night of October 4, 2015 to accompany him on a job site The following morning to make a few dollars. While coping with the experience of his mother‘s death along with his previous experiences of being sexually molested by his mothers brother years prior, Devin suffered from multiple mental illnesses at the time untreated with his love for creating music as it’s only outlet. Mr. Grant took advantage of Devon‘s kindness and vulnerability and befriended him with an ulterior motive. The particular night Devin was picked up by Robert Grant who set passenger to his friend Mylin Who was his driver, unbeknownst beforehand to Devin. they were also several years older than Devin, they were already drunk and high off marijuana and after offering Devin multiple times cups of liquor, they continue to drive around and stop at stores for more to drink and smoke during the midnight hours coming into the a.m. of October 5, 2015. After Devin since the uncomfortable feeling about their aggressive homosexual behavior and excessive drug use, he asked to be taken home, feeling as though Robert may not really have had plans to work. After getting upset at Devin‘s request to go home, they decided to take Robert home first. During the time spent in Milan‘s vehicle, Devin set in the backseat behind the driver which the doors were child locked in. after dropping Robert off instead of leaving Mylin decide to make homosexual unwanted advances towards Devin. Devin pleaded multiple times explaining that he isn’t homosexual and he did not want to engage in any homosexual activity. After getting physical and grabbing Devin‘s penis he had flashbacks of his previous sexual assault and all the trauma he’s experienced helplessly and he shot and killed Mylin out of fear and protection of his manhood. Robert knowing their intentions that night and it being his bringing together of the two he quickly created a story to protect himself and further let Detroit police lead and coerce him into making false statements and accusations as he later admits which resulted in a wrongful conviction of Devin Sims.
