I never thought that I would have to be in this position but the urgency of this matter has left me without a choice. As some of you know, my husband Hanalei has been battling health problems during the last couple of years. He has been going through a couple surgical procedures, and not too long ago he was admitted for a surgical emergency. We stayed at the hospital for a week unable to make any income, which has impacted our savings.
During the last surgery, a 6.8cm mass was found in his right kidney. We were told that it could be a cyst and it had to be taken care of with the urologist. Two months later my husband Hanalei gets his results back, and he was diagnosed with kidney cancer on his birthday. The devastating news has been very difficult to accept, not only because he is scheduled for a kidney removal in mid December, but because the cancer grew into the kidney and has upwards, destroying most of the kidney. The surgery will be an incredibly delicate procedure due to the cancer’s location which is right next to the renal artery and proximity to the abdominal aorta, the largest artery in the human body responsible for pumping liters of blood; this artery could be ruptured at any time and could cause a internal bleeding without or during surgery resulting in loss of life. Hanalei was given a 50/50 chance of survival.
I know in my heart and I pray to God that he can make it through. Hanalei has been a very supportive friend with all of you and now he needs your support for him and our family. He wanted to keep this private, but due to the circumstances I’ve been forced to put my pride aside and ask for help to be able to take care of him while our family is going throughout these hard times. The donations raised will go directly to his care and whatever else the insurance doesn’t cover.
Right now Hanalei is going through a lot of tests to make sure the cancer has not metastasized anywhere else and to prepare him for this big surgery. Two surgeons backed out of it, and only one surgeon is willing to operate even though he says he is kind of nervous for how delicate Hanalei’s case is. This surgeon he has being very lucky during his 30 years of experience, and I have faith that God will guide the Surgeon’s hands. With all of your support, I can have my husband and your friend back in shape.
