On April 12th, one year old Colt became very lethargic after being sick for several days. What started as a concern during his family’s Florida vacation, quickly turned serious, when tests revealed his red blood count was dangerously low. He was rushed to the local ER and then transferred to Johns Hopkins, where he began receiving blood transfusions in the ICU.
Over the next couple of days, Colt required multiple transfusions but began responding well: his color returned, his energy improved, and he was able to eat again. While the situation was initially very scary, his condition has steadily improved with ongoing medical intervention.
After extensive testing, including a bone marrow test, doctors now believe the most likely cause is a past virus that stopped his body from producing red blood cells which is really the best-case scenario. There is still a small chance of more serious conditions, and testing is ongoing to confirm.
We are unsure how long it will take for Colt’s body to recover and begin to start producing the red blood cells so necessary for him to thrive. However Colt has continued to get stronger each day and was now well enough to be discharged today, with follow-up appointments scheduled to monitor his recovery both in Florida and back here in SC as they travel home.
Throughout it all, the family has felt overwhelming support through prayers, messages, and care from loved ones. We remain hopeful as we wait for final answers.
While we are celebrating improvements, we know that the journey is not over. Many have reached out asking if there is any way they can help. This funding page is a practical way the community can lighten the load a little for Kyle and Becca as they pursue treatments for little Colt. I’d love to bless them the way they have blessed so many.
We will try to keep this page updated with the latest news on Colt’s recovery as well as prayer requests. We are grateful for any support you can share.
Blessings, Stephanie
