From a Tent in Deir Al-Balah to the Final Chapter of My Degree: Help Eyas Survive and Graduate
My name is Eyas Al-Kafarna, and I am 23 years old. Back home in Beit Hanoun, my life had a clear directionâstudying Management Information Systems at Al-Aqsa University, building a future, and standing as a pillar of support for my family. Today, that reality has been completely upended.
My family of 10 members and I are now displaced from Beit Hanoun, living in Deir Al-Balah inside a tent that offers zero shelter from the punishing summer heat or the bitter winter cold. Every single day is no longer about living; it is an exhausting, unbroken battle simply to stay alive.
The Daily Weight of Survival
Securing the absolute basicsâclean water, bread, and food for ten peopleâconsumes every ounce of our energy. The financial resources we once relied on are entirely gone. There is no money left, no safety net, and no margin for error.
Yet, even beneath the heavy canvas of a tent, my mind refuses to give up on the future. I am in the final, critical stages of my degree in Management Information Systems at Al-Aqsa University. I am desperate to learn, to adapt, and to finish what I started. But the physical and financial barriers are crushing: internet costs are exceptionally high, keeping devices charged is a daily logistical struggle, and the lack of basic resources makes studying an uphill battle against impossible odds.
