17 years ago, my dad had an accident that changed his life. Shelving fell on top of him and caused permanent damage to his spine. With the hardships of having to learn how to re-walk and get back to a normal life, he did as best he can but was still in a wheelchair and debilitated by pain meds. Fast forward 3 years, he was introduced to a newer development; Medtronic Intrathecal pain pump which was a miracle. A pump that is surgically placed inside his stomach, which delivers medication right into the spinal canal to improve quality of life and pain free living.
On Tuesday night the pump made an alarm noise, my dad became ill and progressively got worse. At that point my step-mom called his pain management doctor in NJ and they were advised to come to the office where it was discovered that the pump had stopped working 25 hours earlier. He was then taken from the pain management office to the ER by ambulance. It was a life threatening situation; my dad was in full blown medical withdrawals causing muscle spasms, vomiting and instant pain.
At this time unfortunately, the insurance is not covering it and we need $25,000 up front to cover the costs. There is no options to changing insurances due to lengthy wait periods and subsequent rules.
To keep him stable he is on very high doses of oral medications and needs this procedure ASAP.
I whole heartedly am asking for some help. Any amount will go a long way and will allow my dad to have his surgery within the next week or so. We appreciate any love and support during this time.
