Hello! I am Meagan and I am proud to be a Teen contestant with the Miss Virginia Opportunity Inc.
My Community Service Initiative (CSI) is Type 1-derful Dreams! I want to inspire and educate EVERYONE, and especially other Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Warriors like my big brother and me, to chase their dreams no matter what adversity they face! I partner with the JDRF to raise awareness and raise funds because I believe in their vision of a world without T1D. Although I have many dreams, my greatest is to help the JDRF find a cure!
I did not choose this CSI, it chose me, and my family! My oldest brother, Michael, was diagnosed with T1D when I was only two months old. I grew up watching my brother deal with a disease that I have learned that you simply cannot control, just manage. I grew up knowing that without insulin treatments and full-time management, Michael could not live.
At the age of 14, I was diagnosed with T1D. I came face to face with the overwhelming responsibility and challenging reality of my new life. I was now the one who had to deal with the frequent pump and glucose monitor changes, finger pricks, sleepless nights, never ending alarms, and the literal highs and lows of my blood glucose levels. T1D is my greatest weakness, but it has also become my greatest strength. Having T1D has taught me where my strength comes from and that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Becoming a T1D Warrior has taught me how to continue to get up after every high and every low and fight to make my dreams come true!
Until a cure is found, I want to continue to use my voice to help improve lives and encourage others to fight for their dreams! I would be honored for you to vote for me as Miss Virginia’s Teen People’s Choice so that I can continue my journey with this amazing organization! Every dollar counts and no amount is too small! Thank you in advance for your votes!
