Melissa is currently fighting breast cancer for the 2nd time in just 2 years. Last year, she was diagnosed with ER positive breast cancer in March. She underwent chemo treatments followed by bilateral mastectomy which was done last August. Early this year, she felt a couple new lumps. An MRI showed 3 new spots that were suspicious. It was decided to do an ultrasound. The areas of question were thought to be unconcerned sweat glands and a follow up ultrasound was done 3 months later where the area was still not thought to be cancerous but thankfully the decision was made to go ahead and perform a biopsy. The biopsy showed that it was in fact cancer, now triple negative breast cancer.
September a lumpectomy was performed but they were not able to get clean margins, which is important to be able to get. Currently, Melissa is once again receiving chemo infusions which because it is so soon after the previous chemo, it is hitting her even harder than last year. Following the 1st chemo, her WBC count dropped dangerously low. Tomorrow will be her 2nd chemo infusion for this battle. She will be going to MD Anderson next week for a second opinion due to the fact that the cancer returned so quickly and even more aggressive.
Since the 1st chemo infusion, Melissa has been unable to work.. She is an RN at the hospital and with the low WBC count and other side effects it has been impossible for her to work 12 hour shifts taking care of sick patients. Any donations to cover living expenses and medical bills are greatly appreciated. If you can, please donate. If not, please keep Melissa and her family in your prayers.
