Calvin is a great kid. Always has been and always will be!
I know he doesn't look like a kid, but he is, he is 17- close to adulthood but not there yet. He will always of course, be our kid.
He has a great sense of humor, a big heart and his knowledge of history especially maritime history would amaze you. He definitely impressed Capt. Rob and the rest of the crew when he went on an amazing tour recently on the Salish- a WA State Ferry. He is one of the lucky few who already knows what he wants to do in life. Calvin's dream is to work on the WA State Ferries and enjoy being on the water.
Calvin's dream has taken a step back for now. Just this past March 2026 he was diagnosed with Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma. In the last almost 3 months, he has been battling his ability to eat (the cancer is in his stomach and he has to be on TPN to meet most of his calories daily), getting jaundice, having stomach and liver stents replaced twice, recovering from pancreatitis twice, getting a STAFF infection which resulted major blood clots forming in his neck going down into his left arm that swelled up, along with small blood clots breaking off going into his both lungs (this part resulted in almost a 5 hour surgery to remove many of the clots and his dual ports) and nausea that really never leaves. He has had 8 surgeries in 9 weeks. Daily at the moment, he has to take blood thinners, antibiotics and acid medication. All of this has resulted in him spending most his days at Seattle Children's Hospital.
He was lucky enough recently, to feel good enough to take that spectacular tour on the Salish Ferry.
Calvin is hoping to continue to feel better, though we know the journey will be long and rough with many detours, to be able to do more outings such as the one mentioned above. His love has him desiring to take a trip to the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. He would love to take a Cruise to Skagway in Alaska and take a trip to the east coast to visit the Smithsonian Museum of Transportation. His biggest dream is to visit Belfast, Ireland where the Titanic was built. We know that all of this may not happen but we are hoping to go where we can!
The money we are trying to fundraise is mainly to go toward Calvin's dream trips, the rest is to go toward paying for his medical bills.
Any help you are willing to give to aid Calvin's dreams to come true would be more than appreciated! It would help in ushering our Calvin's wonderful smile back along with his wicked sense of humor that brings laughs and smiles to everyone around him.
