Otumeel (or Oatmeal, as you will see our vet's office spells it) has been a happy, spoiled cat since he was born January 18th 2013.
He has always been pretty healthy and has only had to go to the vet a couple of times for illnesses. Now at age 13, he has just completed his annual checkup and we have found that he has a heart murmur that he has developed since last year.
The vet ran a test called a proBNP to evaluate his heart function and the results came back showing an elevated value.
The vet recommends that Otumeel have an echocardiogram, which can be done by a specialist who works with our vet at the normal vet office for $450.
As Otumeel's mom, I am not the most prepared for him to need additional testing. Normally I would take out a loan from my 403b account, but I am still paying off the loan there from having to replace the transmission in our car.
I am asking anyone who may be able to help us out for some assistance in getting this testing completed so that we are able to treat whatever is going on.
A little bit about the patient:
Otumeel is a very good boy and he loves everyone. His favorite things are receiving attention and getting treats. He is convinced that all string cheese are for him and knows the sound of one opening, even mistaking the sound of a bandaid opening for an opportunity for cheese. He purrs whenever you pet him or pick him up and wants to express his love to all of his human friends, including rubbing his face on the phone and purring loudly when we are talking to people.
He also has a favorite band and will even be calm in a carrier in the car if you turn on AJR for him.
All in all, he is a special little dude who has a family that loves him a lot and wants to make sure that he is as healthy as he can be.
Otumeel and I would greatly appreciate any assistance we are able to receive in order to get this testing done faster.
