Hi, my name is Micah and I recently had my left leg amputated below the knee. I'm a devoted husband and a father of five kids ranging from 19 to a year and a half. I have been a mechanic for nearly 20 years and I have also been a type 1 diabetic for 25 years. Most important of all, I am a firm believer in the love and sovereignty of our Almighty Creator.

About 4 weeks ago, I started having a lot of pain in my ankle. This is unusual because I have neuropathy in my legs, which makes pain difficult to sense. Thinking I may have twisted my ankle, I went to my doctor to have it checked out after a few days of trying to tough it out. When she couldn't see anything apparent in x-rays, I went home in a medical boot. My foot and ankle continued to swell over the next several days and I continued to try to tough it out.

Though I believe in God's power to heal me miraculously, I knew He was telling me to go to the hospital where skilled hands were prepared to help me. I'm so thankful I listened because what turned out to be an aggressive case of MRSA had already infected my blood stream and I was septic.

IV antibiotics slowed down the spread but did not cure the infection. After two surgical attempts to remove the infection and infected tissue, amputation was required less than two weeks from the first sign of trouble.

I'm so thankful to be alive and to be home with my family. Our church family has been incredibly supportive, as well. Now, the hard part is learning to live in this new normal. While I will be off work for a couple months as I heal and get fitted for a prosthesis that will take time to get accustomed to, my amazing boss is paying me two days of 'sick time' per week and is ready to welcome me back as soon as as I am ready for any level of work.

Even when I can't see it yet, my faith in God's plan sustains me in this season. I know He never wastes a hurt and that, the bigger the hurt, the greater the beauty He can grow from it.

I'm also blessed to have my sense of humor intact, even if my leg isn't. From now on, it's just one step at a time which is what I wanted to name this campaign but it was already taken. Thankfully, my brother in law had made a reference to a certain Kevin Bacon movie so I went with that instead...Thanks for taking the time to read this. God bless.
