To begin, thank you for being here and reading this now. Santos passed I the early hours of September 23 and fought as hard as he could until his last breath. I have raised money for many causes over the years, but this one is the hardest. In August 2021, Santos, my cousin received unfathomable news as he was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma. This cancer is beyond rare and extremely aggressive with no cure. In that moment, Cathy, his wife starting trying to figure out next steps and do all she could to make memories with their two sons, Gavin (9) and Noah (6), and figure out finances, treatment, and everything in between, all while working full time.
Fast forward, it has now been two years since diagnosis and the rapidly became more aggressive. A few weeks ago, Santos, 37, was given a very short window of time left. In the past two years he had his first ever surprise party, family has been abundant, and he has done all he can, including visits to the Mayo Clinic and other clinics to have various treatments to extend his life and time with his sons and family. Santos came here from Mexico over 21 years ago with nothing and has built a life from that. Cathy has done all she can to continue to work full time while caring for Santos, the boys, and prepare for what is next.
At this point we know funeral expenses will be astronomical along with the costs of day to day life. Cathy has cut her hours and has never asked for any help, but we know it's necessary. The funds raised will go to cover all funeral expenses, day to day living expenses (groceries, gas, etc.), grievance counseling for the boys, and ideally we would like to have the chance for the boys to do a couple weekend/day trips to keep their hearts and minds occupied. Sabemos que los gastos funerarios serán caros y más aparte los gastos de día en día. Cathy ha reducido sus horas de trabajo y nunca ha pedido ayuda, pero sabemos que ahora más que nunca es necesario.
