Two months ago, my wife Jordan and I moved 2,000 miles away from family, excited for a fresh start. But after a month into our new life, everything changed. Jordan began experiencing tremendous pain in her lower right abdomen. We rushed to the ER, where after a long, painful and anxious wait, we were told she had acute appendicitis. She underwent emergency surgery to remove her appendix, and though we were discharged, something still didn’t feel right.
Over the next eight days, Jordan’s pain and symptoms only intensified, but we were reassured by doctors over the phone that this was normal post-surgery pain. As her condition worsened, I knew we had to go back. Early on a Sunday morning, Jordan was readmitted to the hospital, where after several days of tests, doctors discovered a serious infection and hematoma (very rare). Another procedure followed, this time to drain blood from her abdomen and place a temporary drain to manage the hematoma and infection.
After days of antibiotics and recovery in the hospital, we finally saw her white blood cell count drop, and for the first time in weeks, Jordan’s pain seemed to ease. We were overjoyed, but soon had to return to the ER when her pain and fever spiked again. This time, we learned she was healing, but dealing with serious inflammation in her intestines, a common part of her recovery.
Now, thankfully, Jordan’s pain has decreased, and she’s able to walk around the house again. She’ll continue on IV antibiotics through mid-November and remains under close care. Though we’re seeing progress, this journey has left us with deep gratitude and many new challenges. I had to take time off work to care for Jordan, and since her health insurance only recently activated, our medical bills are already piling up. We are fighting for something fair with the hospital since the surgery created complications and a serious infection.
We’ve learned so much through this experience, the biggest lesson being to hold loved ones close and cherish every moment. I didn’t want to make this fundraiser—I’m not someone who usually asks for help—but I’ve been overwhelmed by the love and support from our friends back home in Bend, OR and Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. Many have asked how they can help, and I realize that allowing others to join us in this journey is a blessing.
Any contributions to this fund will go directly towards Jordan’s medical bills, our rent, and basic needs as we focus on her recovery. Your support, whether through a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing our story, means the world to us. We’re filled with gratitude for God’s presence in this journey and hope for Jordan’s continued healing.
Thank you for being here with us.
