As most of you now know, I had to depart from my beloved apartment in an emergency due to violent threats against my life from my landlord’s 36-year-old son.
His tirade went on for several days and escalated with every turn and unfortunately, I am not safe to return.
At the heart of it, my landlord is threatening to keep my $2,000 deposit, as I'm not giving “proper notice” — even though I've been paid up at my apartment this whole month, without the safe option of returning home.
This situation means I must find new housing without notice, a financial burden I was not anticipating, especially now.
Cleo and I are in a safe place for a couple more weeks, but not sure what exactly is next.
My first priority is to get my belongings out of my apartment & into storage. To do that, I need your help.
Below are some itemized unanticipated moving costs:
moving supplies: $200
2 months storage: $300
movers: $650 + tip
temporary sublet costs: $2,000
and eventually, first and last months rent. $3000
total estimated costs of unplanned move (rounding down on much, esp housing): ~$6000+
I’m hoping to raise enough money to help me get my stuff into storage, and then I can take it from there.
If I surpass my goal, that’s wonderful; in the meantime, I’m grateful for every last bit.

For those who are curious:
I did file multiple police reports, and his mother, my landlord, also filed a domestic violence report for herself. However, she was unwilling to call the police into the home, as he is already on parole, and without her compliance, there’s nothing more I can do.
Unfortunately, even if someone threatens to k*ll you with a gun, which he did me— that threat is not treated with much seriousness until it escalates to physical assault.
I am seeking legal counsel in hopes of obtaining a restraining order against him; though I am moving out, I would like to feel protected should I ever run into him.
I will continue to attempt to retrieve my deposit, as well, but everything is in the air.
In the meantime, Cleo and I are looking for temporary housing while I save for permanent.
