Hello All!
My name is Armand Slaton. I am a junior at Valencia High in Southern California, a Valor Award recipient for excellence (at Valencia High), and a future special effects creator.
I aspire to make a difference in the special effects arena as I have studied, toiled, and practiced this craft over the last five years. I love that I can combine mathematics, creativity, and observation skills to create works of art that may be used in movies, videos, and the like. One day I would love to be part of the team to work on an Avatar, Star Wars, or Stranger Things-type of genre.
Gnomon School in Hollywood is one of the world's top schools for special effects training. It is a STEM-accredited school and is ranked one of the top special effects schools in the country.
I have visited its campus many times and have been assigned an advisor who guides me on the content of my portfolio, skills I need to improve on, and feedback on projects I have in progress. My intention is to attend in September of 2024. A link to my portfolio is here Armand's Portfolio
Every summer, Gnomon conducts an intensive 5-day BootCamp for prospective students. It puts the participants through a grueling week of training that mimics a week in a student's life. The BootCamp is designed to give the participants a taste of the rigors of attending Gnomon. It is also an opportunity to get to know and network with the professors (all advisors and teachers have full-time jobs in the special effects industry).
