Since the 1970s, Tanzania's Selous national park has lost an average of almost 2,500 elephants a year. Only 15,000 elephants remain - a decrease of 90% over the past 40 years.
Celebrities have taken up the cause of protecting elephants. Elizabeth Hurley recently traveled to Nairobi to witness local officials burn 105 tons of ivory that had been taken by poachers.
