Khamari (age 16) and Bella (age 3) were born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) called tetralogy of fallot (aka blue baby syndrome).
Tetralogy of fallot (Tof) consists of 4 defects of the heart which requires corrective open heart surgeries, and other cardiac related procedures typically before 6 months of age. CHD affects 1 in 100 children.
Many cardiac kids are refused life insurance due to their preexisting conditions. Imagine how much of a burden it would be to not have the funds to lay your sweet baby to rest. As unethical as it seems, "unfortunately its business" per many insurance agencies.
In structuring our foundation we aim to provide support by offering monies to assist with burial costs, hold annual health fairs for the underserved population, and provide retreat/respite days for caregivers of cardiac kids during their hospital stays. We also, in addition to what we will provide, will incorporate mental health services for those that live with PTSD, anxiety, depression etc.By all means, this never gets easy for any of us.
Khamari's first open heart surgery was 6 days after birth, 6 months after that, and again at age 11. Just recently at the age of 15, she had her pulmonary valve replaced. Bella has had three open heart surgeries done all before the age of 3, unfortunately with the possibility of both girls needing future corrective surgeries. 😢
While treading along this journey we need the support of our village to make this foundation possible (the legal fees and foundation start up costs) . Please join us to help build this foundation and change lives. ❤️ ***a portion of the proceeds will go towards The Mended Hearts of Baltimore chapter** Thank you🙏🏽
