On April 24th, 2025, the earth shook in Instanbul, Turkey. Hi, I'm Shelley, and my Turkish sister, Hulya, our mother Ayhan (anne), and brother, Levent, were in their basement apartment when the earthquake hit at exactly 12:49 pm. In 13 seconds, their dreams were ruined, as they rushed out of the building and into the street. The building has been judged as being too unsafe, the walls crumbling. It will be demolished at some point in the future.
Hulya, Ayhan and Levent are living on cardboard, trying to keep warm at night. Hulya managed to save socks and a couple of blankets from the wreckage. They are stuck in a park, too poor to even have a tent.
I am asking those of you who can to look deep into your hearts and find kindness there. It takes so little time to give, and you can be sure that your gift will make a real difference. Turkey is a long ways away, but when natural disasters strike, innocent people suffer.
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity. May you have a blessed, safe day.
