Kitty is my 8 year old long hair chihuahua, who is the most loving guy you will ever meet. I call him my emotional support dog and I am his emotional support person. He has been by my side through 2 back surgeries and now a neck surgery.
Everyone that meets Kitty instantly realizes how human like he is and is instantly drawn to loving nature.
On Sunday, he had to be rushed into the emergency veterinary, since he was lethargic, restless, refused to eat or drink and then suddenly was having problems breathing.
He was rushed to the ER and they took him to the back instantly. They took X-rays and drew blood and said his bladder was completely full.
He had been struggling to pee and poop all day and my fear was that he had eaten something he shouldn't have. I took him to a car show the day before and there was an instance that I saw him chewing something, but he swallowed it before I could ascertain what it was.
The vet said he had to stay the night so she could sedate him, administer pain meds, and try and put a catheter in him to drain his painfully full bladder.
I spoke to her later in the evening and she said she was unable to insert the catheter after several attempts. She asked if he could have injured his penis some how (fractured)😳. I explained that is his pretty rough with his toys 🙈, but I was not aware that he injured his penis.
She said she was able to stick a needle directly into his bladder and drain the urine.
The following morning I picked him up and they had his transfer paperwork prepared for him to go straight to his regular veterinarian.
Ive never seen my puppy so exhausted and sick.
We arrived at his regular vet and she said that she would like to take some additional X-rays and keep him for the day for observation.
Turns out, Kitty had 3 stones lodged in his penis that were preventing him from urinating. His bladder was at max capacity and that was even putting pressure on his rectum. The vet was able to finally get a catheter in to flush the stones into his bladder and empty his urine, since his bladder was once again full. She asked me to bring him in the following day for surgery to remove the stones now floating in his bladder. I explained I had to acquire the funding and if we could wait a few days, buy this time, his vet bill is $1500. The surgery he requires will be another $1500. So I'm looking at 3k. I was hoping his pet insurance I purchased recently might cover some of the cost, but there are many stipulations and it's a no-go.
