Everyone warns you that your life can change in a minute but you’ll never understand the gravity of that moment until you’re faced with earth shattering news in the prime of your life. What started as a beautiful day for a hike on August 20th quickly turned into an unimaginable nightmare for Adam. After returning from a hike we noticed Adam was jaundice which led to a trip to the ER. Within the next 48 hours we learned he was facing the surreal diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. As you can imagine at the age of 45 such a diagnosis is shocking to say the least. Couple all this with the fact that the pancreas is an angry organ and does not like to be messed with. Adam ended up hospitalized for over 2 weeks trying to recover from pancreatitis exasperated by ERCP procedure to place a stent in the bile duct, and a second ERCP to check the stent for fear it had become displaced. Even now being home for a few months his pancreas remains inflamed which prevents him from being a surgery candidate at this time. So the plan at this stage is to start an aggressive chemotherapy to help prevent the spread of the cancer cells. While he is grateful for VA benefits, it remains a blessing and a curse such that this cancer was caused by exposure to burn pits while deployed overseas. Heartbreaking to know that those who risk their lives for our freedom were sacrificed in so many ways. There is nothing more Adam would like to do than go back to work and forget this nightmare ever happened. Unfortunately he can’t get there is little forgiveness for life’s expenses. He is not a man that lives outside his means but is struggling to pay for rent, gas, and food with no income with an anticipated 12 weeks of chemotherapy and potential surgery he needs help. Every penny counts and we are grateful for your contributions, love, support, and prayers.
