Dr. Samer Abuzerr is an environmental public health scientist dedicated to improving the health and livelihood of people living in less privileged societies. His work focuses on developing strategies for potable water systems that reduce the risks of water-born diseases. Samer is also a devoted husband to Hanaa and a loving father to four beautiful and intelligent children: Lana, Jana, Salim and Asil.
Since the past year, Samer and his family have endured unimaginable hardships, moving from one refugee camp to another, living in war zone conditions that no human should ever experience.
Despite these precarious circumstances, since October 2023, Samer has found the strength and courage to continue advocating for health in Palestine. He has authored numerous scholarly articles to highlight the urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza, including:
Patients in Gaza with chronic conditions need urgent interventions - The Lancet
Amplifying the voices of women in the Gaza Strip - The Lancet
Addressing the mental health crisis among children in Gaza - The Lancet Psychiatry
State of the health-care system in Gaza during the Israel–Hamas war - The Lancet
As Samer’s international colleagues, we are compelled to support his evacuation from Gaza and stay in Egypt until he and his family can resettle as refugees in another country. Samer is determined to continue his work in public health once they are safe. His unwavering commitment to advocating for health in Palestine during the war assures us that he will continue to contribute to the global good as a refugee.
Please help us to support Samer and his family in their relocation to safety and provide them with a chance to start anew.
On behalf of Luciana Balboa, Hussam Mahmoud, and Yensi Flores Bueso, thank you very much for your support!
