Good People,

I have contracted Stage 4 Colon Cancer. It's not curable and 96% of the time this is a return to sender malady. I have 2-3 years on the clock for certain and after that I will be literally living on borrowed time.

Before it gets too grim in here, in the words of one of my favorite songs: "I'm not dead yet" and I don't intend to die. I mean I'm in theology school for God's sake. The irony of dying now is unacceptable.

I start chemo in the next few weeks and the one thing we do know is that this business of maybe dying in the next 24-36 months is going to be super disruptive to my work-school life. So, before things get dire I am appealing to the community to help me get through this so that we can continue to pass decent legislation, organize people to hold prick-rat-bastards accountable, give good counsel to people... and sometimes when the God's smile on us... fight with nazis.

I will need your help for sure. I love you all and no matter what happens remember... Light Will Prevail. We got this.

Good People,

Many of you have been very generous and as we are now on our second round of chemo so here are the updates on how things are going out here in this unscheduled colonization of this particular black body.

I am responding amazingly well to treatment. Turns out that my fancy blood chemistry made me a candidate for an immuno-treatment that we did not think would on the table and I am tolerating it well. No nausea and barely any pain. I've even worked in two, two-mile runs, a week.

My oncology team says I am doing extrordinarily well. That my stage 4 body is not acting like a stage 4 body but I still have Cancer so it's too early to say I am better but they are impressed to surprised with how well I am doing. (I'm gonna be a 4% guy.)

Like I said, I'm Don Washington, I can't die leaving the timeline looking like this. I'd be embarrassed to hang out with my Grandfather, and he'd be pissed I let things get so bad.

So... now the yucky part of all this. I still gotta raise like more money than I can imagine. Spread the word. There are rumors that a fancy comedian friend of mine will be creating a shirt that simply says: "It's Never a Bad Day to Be Don Washington" Which is remains true... I just got a little Cancer on me but I plan to rub some dirt on it and get back to Divinity School so I can start spiritually punching Nazis because physically kicking them, because apparently has not been working.
