My Dog Blue is 8 years old and is a Dachshund. He is very energetic, he loves to play fetch and is loved by everyone he meets. Especially, kids that will play fetch with him. I just had a baby last year, My daughter Addison, who just turned 1. She loves her dog Blue and loves watching him plays fetch and when he snuggles with her. But, Unfortunately, if we don’t get the surgery he needs with in the next 24 hours he may not get to play fetch ever again.
A little about Blues family.
I am his mother Michelle and I am a stay at home wife and mom, after having Blues sibling, in February of 2022. My fiancé Kenny, got laid off from Amazon this last December and he is desperately trying to find another job. But, it’s hard to find a job in tech right now because, a lot of tech workers are getting laid off. It’s been a tough couple months in that regard and when it rains it pours, and now our Dachshund Blue is hurt and needs a life altering surgery or risk being paralyzed for the rest of his life.
How it happened
Blues injury to his spine happened suddenly and without notice 2/23. Blue was doing the thing he loved most, which is playing fetch and all of a sudden his hind legs went limp. He couldn’t move either of his hind legs and was in excruciating pain and discomfort. We immediately took him to the emergency vet. The vet informed us that Blue has a slipped disc or IVDD that is cutting off a nerve resulting in paralysis. The vet informed us of our options.
Option 1 is to send Blue home with pain medication to try to let Blue’s spine heal naturally and he said that would most likely result in blue being paralyzed the rest of his life. And this approach is inherently risky because he may not be able to urinate or defecate on his own. option 2 is emergency surgery. Which if done within 24 hrs after something like this happens has a 90 percent recovery rate. if our family wants blue to return to the fun loving pain free not paralyzed dog it’s going to be extremely expensive. This Surgery is between 10-15 thousand. And the longer we wait to get surgery the less successful the surgery outcome will be.
That brings me to why I am asking for help and starting this Gofundme for my Dachshund Blue, My family cannot afford this surgery right now, But like most people our pets are our family. And Blue has half of his life left to live and we love him dearly, he is a good loving dog.
We always pictured him and our daughter growing up to be best friends. Please help make this dream a reality Anything you can donate for his surgery and recovery would be greatly appreciated from us.
Thank you,
Michelle, Addison, Kenny
