Moosie Strong: Fighting Canine Cancer

Update 7-8-2024
Moosie’s diagnosis has been confirmed. He is fighting Advanced Large Cell Lymphoma and is in late stage. He has lost 20lbs but remains comfortable and happy. His time is limited though and he will be crossing the rainbow bridge on Thursday, July 11th.
We are critically in need of funds to pay his vet bill and help him cross the rainbow bridge.
Should we exceed our goal, in the short term, in honor of Moosie, extra funds will be used to help another dog(s) at NVC Nederland needing help with life saving cancer treatment.
Longer term, our goal is to honor Moosie’s legacy in a meaningful, purposeful way that speaks more specifically to his broader journey from abused and thrown away to loved and cherished for many years to come. To be continued…

A Plea for Moosie
Moosie came to us from a dire situation. He was rescued from BARC's euthanasia list by another organization due to his severe anxiety and PTSD, which led BARC to deem him unadoptable. Unfortunately, they placed him in boarding because of a lack of foster homes, and his health deteriorated rapidly.
Kathy stepped in to foster him temporarily, but she soon realized Moosie needed more support than she anticipated. His severe PTSD and anxiety, and the way they manifested, indeed made him unadoptable. Consequently, Kathy brought Moosie into our rescue's care and volunteered to be his permanent foster.
Over the next two years, Moosie slowly began to trust and heal, forming a deep bond with Kathy and her family. His first kiss, joyful zoomies, and newfound courage to play with toys were milestones that marked his incredible transformation.
But now, Moosie faces a new battle.
The Fight Against Lymphoma
Just six days ago, Moosie exhibited signs of a UTI. Despite immediate antibiotic treatment, he soon developed significant swelling in his lymph nodes and began to struggle with mobility. The local vet's blood panel results were inconclusive, so we sought the expertise of Dr. Hanson at Neighborhood Veterinary Center in Nederland, TX. Following exams, x-rays, and an ultrasound, we received the heartbreaking news that Moosie has lymphoma.
To determine the best course of treatment, Moosie needs a surgical internal biopsy, estimated at $1,900. The total cost of his potential treatment ranges from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the biopsy results. We have already incurred approximately $750 in medical fees, and we urgently need your help to cover these costs and ensure Moosie gets the care he deserves.
Why Your Support Matters
Your donation will:
- Fund the surgical internal biopsy needed to diagnose Moosie's lymphoma accurately.
- Cover the costs of medications and a special diet required until we receive the biopsy results.
- Potentially fund further treatment to extend Moosie’s life, ensuring he continues to experience the love and joy he so deeply deserves.
