About this fundraiser

The Book Club is a new lesbian coming-of-age play by me, Olivia Galligan! It has been selected for a staged reading at The Flea in New York City as a part of this year's Rogue Theater Festival! It is so exciting to be telling this story again following the world premiere at Long Island University last March. Of course, putting up any kind of show in New York is expensive, and your contribution will help us to put up the best possible representation of this show and support the continued development of The Book Club. If you've been thinking 'How can I support original theatre and uplift lesbian stories at the same time?' lately, your golden opportunity has arrived! In all seriousness, your support, whether that be financial or by any other means, means the world. Any amount helps and is truly appreciated! It takes a village and whatnot!

Synopsis

16-year-old Molly, feeling ostracized by her disinterest in boys, finds a friend in Amelia, the author of a 200-year-old book she's reading. The two share sentiments about love, loneliness, and falling behind, and for the first time feel heard and understood. Over the following five years, the pair befriends six more authors from various time periods who help them, and each other, through a challenging, messy, and joyful journey of lesbian self-discovery and acceptance. The Book Club is a story about language's immense power to help us understand and be understood, and a reminder that it's never too late to figure out who you are, no matter how many hundreds of years it takes.
