Support pro-Palestine Comrade in Their Fight for Justice
We are rallying together to support a comrade who had been wrongfully targeted due to their support for Palestine. On May 4, 2024, our comrade and their friends were flying kuffiyeh printed and pro Palestine message kites in a public park when Bergen County officers told them they had to disband immediately. A few folks questioned the orders and there was a brief back and forth but ultimately everyone dispersed. Months later, in July, our friend who was identified that day, received a summons in the mail for “illegally gathering” at the park that day. The Bergen County sheriff’s office and Parks Department made no effort to hide their clear bias. It was evident to everyone that the gathering of people to fly kites was never the issue, but it was the pro-Palestine messaging of the kites that landed our friend in legal trouble.
