We're creating this GoFundMe to support someone truly special—a woman we are lucky to work with and call a friend. Tara has recently been faced with the incredibly difficult diagnosis of stage 3 cancer, and she is now beginning treatment.

If you know Tara, you already know—she’s the kind of person who shows up. Every time, for everyone. As an aide at our school, she’s always the first to lend a hand, check in on someone having a tough day, or quietly make things better without ever asking for recognition. She has the biggest heart (and a serious soft spot for animals), and she gives so much of herself to others.

She’s also someone who would never ask for help—but right now, she truly needs it.  As she focuses on fighting cancer and healing, Tara is facing significant financial strain. Between ongoing medical treatments, frequent trips to and from the hospital, and everyday expenses, the costs are quickly becoming overwhelming—especially on a limited income.

We’re hoping to raise funds to help cover:
• Travel to and from the hospital
• Medical expenses not covered by insurance
• Day-to-day costs during treatment

Every donation—no matter the amount—will help ease the burden so she can focus on what matters most: her health and recovery. And if donating isn’t possible, sharing this page is just as meaningful.

If Tara were reading this, she’d probably blush a little at all the attention—and then immediately ask how you’re doing instead. That’s just who she is.  Now it’s our turn to show up for her the way she’s always shown up for everyone else.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, generosity, and support.  Please keep Tara in your thoughts as she continues this fight—we’re all right beside her.

FROM TARA:

I want to thank each and every one of you for your kindness, your generosity, your thoughtful messages, your prayers, and your hugs. My soul feels every bit of the love you’ve sent my way. I am blessed to have been touched by all of you through the years.  Many of you sat in front of me for your photo IDs.  And some of your photos are pinned to my office wall.  🙂
Please, I ask this from the bottom of my heart: do not ignore even the slightest change in your body. Do not put off your colonoscopy.  Just do it.  And if you need someone to go with you, I will.  I also want to share something I recently learned — the importance of DPYD gene testing. This test helps assess the risk of severe toxicity from fluoropyrimidine chemotherapy. People with certain DPYD gene variants can have severe or even life‑threatening reactions to these drugs. I learned through my bloodwork that I carry one of these variants.
If sharing this helps even one person avoid what I am going through, then it means something.
Thank you for lifting me up. Thank you for the love.  Tara
