A handful of my neighbors and I have taken care of various animals that have been dumped in our neighborhood throughout the years. From seeing a car drive off after dumping two dogs to monitoring a broken leg for 12 weeks. (Yes, inside the house, per vet's orders.) We've seen it all. We've paid for it all, out of pocket, including Emergency Vet care – which is not cheap – and even used Care Credit to ensure the health and safety of these animals, which comes with high interest rates. It's not a viable long-term solution, though.
Right now, there is a growing problem with kittens and cats being dumped more frequently, and we had just started to have a slow down on litters being born. Some have found permanent homes, others have not, but all are cared for. Unfortunately, it's expensive to care for so many animals and vet care – including needed spay and neuter services – is unattainable.
We are looking to raise $600 to have one kitten sexed and treated properly, one female spayed and vaccinated, and one male neutered and vaccinated. Ideally, we hope to raise enough to have all four that are easily handled done and go from there with those that are not.
