Why We're Asking for Your Help:
Right now, my Relatives are facing a serious problem. Many Tribal Nations rely on federal funding that was promised to us in Treaties. Our ancestors relinquished millions of acres of land, and in return, the government agreed to provide our people with basic necessities, including healthcare, food, education, and support for our communities.
When that support is delayed, reduced, or inconsistent, our Relatives feel the impact immediately.
Many Tribes also do not collect taxes like cities and states do. The land we live on is Tribal land, and it isn't taxed. That means we don't have tax dollars to run programs like food assistance, schools, or emergency help. So when federal funding falls short or is interrupted, we don't have another way to take care of our people.
What We're Doing:
I am starting a food bank for my Relatives, focusing on Elders and Children who are struggling to put food on the table. This food bank isn't just about giving out meals. For us, it's about dignity, survival, and taking care of each other when the systems we rely on aren't meeting our needs.
But we can't do this alone. We need help from people who care.
