Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for coming all the way to Antigua to celebrate our wedding with us. We appreciate the effort that each and every one of you have put in to be there!

As mentioned before, your presence at our wedding is the only present we want, however a lot of you naughties are not taking no for an answer ;)

Therefore, if you insist on giving us something other than your love, we have set up this funding page for our very dear friend Meghan’s charity - One for One Chicago!

We know the hard work Meghan puts in and what a difference it makes to these children’s lives and would love to support her in any way we can. We are also currently working on ways we can help her with our time also, not just financially β€οΈ

Please see details of the charity below and thank you for your support!

We love you all,

Jonathan and Malin xx

One For One Chicago

We foster transformative connections that help youth navigate a positive path forward.

One For One is a non-profit organization helping teens living in Chicago communities with high rates of violent crime and joblessness. Since 2007, our organization has been dedicated to breaking the cycle of violence by enriching the lives of the youth we serve, allowing them to connect and thrive within their communities and beyond.

Through our Keeping Grounded Summer Internship Program, we help teens find internships and quality employment, learn valuable career-readiness skills, job shadowing, provide pathways to college, and exposure to new experiences, workshops and field trips. One For One helps young adults cultivate their strengths and values so they can forge a positive future while also giving back positively to their communities. They are so much more than the neighborhoods they live in.

Hello!

As we reflect on another successful summer (with program expansion after Labor Day) we would like to take time to recognize the growth of the young adults in our program, which is a direct result of your generous support.

We know that hands-on learning, consistent and sustained relationship building, along with mentorship can transform a young person’s life. The participants we work with at One For One have complex and often dangerous circumstances to navigate on a daily basis. Our Keeping Grounded Summer Internship Program provides positive opportunities and critical touchpoints for our students, and this summer was no different.

Here are some of the highlights from summer 2023:

  • 30 students participated in our summer program
  • All students opened a Wintrust student banking account
  • 100% of interns completed our summer program
  • 90% attendance rate amongst all participants
  • Our interns built a West Side garden site from the ground-up
  • 2 former interns took on manager roles in summer program
  • Multiple interns secured employment after the summer program ended
  • Garden program taught STEM science skills in soil, weed, crop, entomology and landscape design
  • Provided Social and Emotional Learning and Conflict Resolution support
  • Had high recruitment of younger generation of teens wanting to participate and enter the workforce
  • Partnered with established West Side organizations to build community partnerships
  • Career exposure: Interns took weekly field trips for career development

We will NEVER get used to gun violence.

As we celebrate the highs, we also need to acknowledge the lows. Prior to the start of the summer program, we tragically lost one of our students to gun violence. Timothy, just 14 years old, was gunned down in broad daylight on the West Side of Chicago. This horrifying incident had a profound impact on the young individuals in our program, many of whom knew Timothy closely. Despite their pain, trauma and daily burden of fear from this incident and countless other, the kids in our program were so resilient and kept coming to work in the garden all summer.

“So many of us are fighting battles that we don’t speak about, and this program provides the support that we need to keep moving on.”—One For One participant

We know our services are working and we must continue to provide critical support and career paths for our young people to thrive. We can’t do this without the incredible support you’ve shown in the past and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for choosing to support a small, hands-on organization that is meeting young people in Chicago where they are at. That is why we are asking you to please consider giving generously this holiday season.
