Hello! I am Megan Frick, PT, DPT, and I am proud to be a contestant with Miss Virginia Opportunity Inc. This Opportunity has provided me with academic scholarships that aided me in graduating with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
My story begins in 2008 when I lost my father to suicide. As my mother worked as a teacher, I knew from as early as 9 that going to college would be a difficult task. Little did I know that loss was something that would strike again. At the start of fall semester of my sophomore year of college, my mother passed from a massive heart attack just one month before her 51st birthday. I inherited all of her debt and faced a scary reality: not only could I not afford to stay in college, I had to sell my childhood home just to keep my head above water. I was homeless at the age of 19. Just a few weeks later, I began my journey with the Miss America Opportunity and picked up scholarships that allowed me to stay in college. Thanks to these scholarships and an amazing support system of coaches, family, and friends, I beat the odds against me to graduate summa cum laude. Now, I am hoping to be the first licensed doctor to win the title of Miss Virginia and even Miss America!
Everyone has to face difficult times, but I am so grateful to be given this platform to share my story. I hope to inspire others that they, too, can forge their own path and be a shining light through the darkness around them.
With the skills I gained through the Miss Virginia Opportunity, I began a nonprofit called S.I.M.plify Healthcare which I named in memory of my mother. Our mission is to improve health literacy, provide accessible resources, and serve those in need through free pop-up clinics.
I would be honored for you to vote for me as Miss Virginia’s People’s Choice.
