Pleased to meet you, my name is Susan. I'm a 70 year old woman with three life threatening medical conditions trying to survive on social security.
It has been very difficult since my husband died from cancer in September 2023. Six weeks later I was told I had to get a newer RV or would be thrown out of the park; property owners edict. At the time I was living in a 2007 Mountaineer with a roof that leaked like Niagara Falls, had extensive water damage and black mold. Having very little time and no money I was able to buy an "as is" RV thanks to and my sister and brother-in-law. (Still, it'll take 6 years to pay off.) The moving expenses were horrendous so I wasn't able to take delivery until over a month later.
I'd had it three days and found out the roof leaked in the bedroom next to the bed and nearly on top of a power outlet. Four days after that I discovered the waste tanks were leaking and their gates on the edge of failure. Next I discovered the water in the RV was so foul it was undrinkable; meaning no running water. Then there was a water leak where the electrical system is. The power box showed obvious signs of water damage and a small fire. Turned out the water leak was from the water pump. The furnace is producing carbon monoxide and (there is no carbon monoxide detector) and has stopped working. Next the smell of a propane leak appeared and I fully expect the water heater to be so badly caked with calcium and lime that it will rupture if I try to use it. In short, every vital system on this RV is failing - is about to fail or has failed. I'm very much afraid it will burn down and/or explode with me inside and the dealership will do nothing to help.
To fix/replace all these issues will cost more than purchasing a new one. Obviously, getting a new one means this one will have to be paid off first. Adding the needed safety and accessibility improvements will add to the cost plus there are the moving expenses.
I have tried getting grants, but none provide assistance for this type of situation. Not even "Homes On Wheels" can help.
So, here I am calling upon the kindness of strangers for help. I know I am asking a lot and I'm embarrassed by having to ask. Yet, I have to wonder, is it too much to ask to spend ones "golden" years in a safe and comfortable home?
