Hello, my name is Babita, and I'm reaching out with a heartfelt request on behalf of my dear friend Yasmeen. Yasmeen is an incredibly dedicated single mother of three, who also lovingly cares for her aging mother. Recently, her world has turned upside down. Living in Pune, India, she has faced tremendous challenges. Her home was desperately in need of repairs, and to make things even harder, her mother suffered a severe accident, breaking her leg and requiring expensive surgery. Facing these unexpected costs, Yasmeen took a loan of 5 Lakh rupees (about $5,262 USD) in a moment of sheer desperation and stress.
Despite her best efforts to negotiate a more manageable repayment plan, Yasmeen's situation has become increasingly dire. Her salary as an employee at a local mall in Pune is 15,000 rupees (around $158 USD) a month, and her loan installment is double that. The bank's refusal to adjust the payments has been a devastating blow. Yasmeen's attempts to gather help from friends and family have been in vain, as everyone around her is struggling too. The bank's threats to seize her home have left her anxious and scared for her family’s future. Yasmeen’s resilience is admirable; she’s been making partial payments whenever possible, but it’s not enough. Without intervention, she and her family face the terrifying prospect of homelessness.
