As most of my friends and family know, this last year has been a struggle waiting for Dad’s nursing home Medicaid to kick in. The monthly payment is $1750 more than his monthly social security payment and his pension. When he ran out of money, I started paying for it. Then I ran out of money. When your paycheck as a teacher is $2700 a month, $1750 is a death blow.
From January to May when he was approved, I subsidized with payday loans. Dumbest thing I ever did, but I didn’t have a choice. I managed to get a loan from dad’s credit union, but it didn’t pay off all of them. I have two left that are $400+ monthly payments, but I can pay them off for $2000.
I know we’re all hurting in this economy. Any amount would be appreciated.
