Hello, my name is Shonda, and I’m a single mother doing my best to care for a full house. I have two sons of my own, and I also stepped up to foster my two young cousins when no one else in the family could or would take them in. Their parents begged for help, and I couldn’t say no. At the time, they were just 4 and 5 years old. There parents both end up dying in a car crash. That was several years ago.
Since then, our home has been filled with love, laughter, challenges, and growth. I also have 3 awesome dogs who bring us joy and comfort. Right now two pets are in one room and having the extra space would put my youngest son with his pet. I’ve been a single mom since my divorce in 2011, working full-time to support all of us.
We’re now at a point where we’ve outgrown the space in our home. My second-born son began experiencing severe social anxiety and had to leave college, which made our already-tight space even more limited. One of the boys now sleeps on the couch every night. I was able to convert our garage into a bedroom (out of pocket), but I couldn’t afford to add a much-needed bathroom at the time.
Now, as I get older, the need for another bathroom and an additional bedroom is growing more urgent—for privacy, comfort, and dignity for everyone in the household.
I received a quote of $27,000 to build the room and add the bathroom. I’ve set up a home repair savings account, but with the rising cost of bills, groceries, and basic needs, I haven’t been able to make progress toward this goal.
If you can donate to help us reach this goal, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Every bit helps. And if you’re unable to give, I simply ask for your kindness and understanding—this isn’t an easy thing to ask for.
Thank you for reading and for caring.
With gratitude,
Shonda Fulcher
