On June 8, my youngest brother Kenny was severely injured by a shotgun wound to his dominant right arm. UPDATE: He spent eleven days in the hospital and had two surgeries and several procedures. Brother Dan found housing for him downtown for two days and with a friend for two days. Now Dan is helping Kenny find the safest place for him and is seeking a year-long lease.
UPDATE August 10, 2023: Kenny's friend Julie helps Kenny with wound care, medication, food, and medical visits. He is still seeing surgeons and receiving support for trauma. He has moved at least six times since leaving the hospital and needs stability and a home. He does not have a mailing address for bills, voting, and other needs.
In early April, Kenny had his 5th surgical procedure which was a skin graft. His tissues are healing, and his range of motion has improved. However, the doctor believes that Kenny is as much as a year out from additional surgeries and knowing the final outcome. He is learning how to complete simple activities without the full use of his dominant arm. He does have movement in all ten fingers, which is a blessing.
Update August 12: Kenny has been moved to a temporary situation that could last as long as one month.
Kenny has a long recovery ahead that will probably include physical therapy and more. His only insurance is Medicaid. His income is limited. He needs a place to call home.

Kenny uses public transportation. He will need funds for deposits, utilities, and rent if he is able to get a lease that he can afford with his income. Competition for housing is very tight around August when the students return.
Kenny is a gentle soul who has called Athens home since 1970 when he started kindergarten. He's a Townie that followed the music scene here in the 80s and had a following when he performed in the clubs as 8-Track Gorilla. He has worked as a house painter, displayed and sold collage art at local venues, written for The Flagpole, and volunteered at Project Safe.
