On Monday March 13rd , our son ,Jackson , was in his first few hours of his Spring Break ski trip in Angel Fire, NM with his best friends family when he had a terrible accident that resulted in a horrible compound break of his tibia & fibula, severe damage to his elbow, and other new appearing injuries we are discovering as the days pass.
We received that terrible call and jumped on a plane within the hour to make our way to him. When we arrived we were told the hospital he was in was not able to do the pediatric trauma surgery he needed so he was flown by private medical charter to UNM Trauma hospital in Albuquerque to begin days of very painful and terrifying treatment and reparative surgery. He will be in a hip to toe cast , confined to the bed or a wheelchair for a min of 4 weeks to be followed by months of rehabilitation and possible further surgeries. As for his elbow and other injuries, they will also need treatment once we return home.
Jackson was so excited to get some much needed fun, relaxation, and recharge with his best friend after a very difficult season, and is so heartbroken over this, besides the pain, and extreme powerlessness he’s feeling β€οΈπ©Ή
The enormous & unexpected medical bills and considerable other expenses we’ve already accumulated with just travel, lodging, accommodations for him at home to make wheelchair accessible spaces for him etc are mounting quickly and will only continue to grow over the next few months of treatment, missed work time, caregivers etc.
I hate having to ask for help when I know there are so many people in so much more need, but unfortunately we just finished paying for a very large medical expense weeks before this happened so our saving & emergency funds are gone.
I honestly have no idea how much this will cost us all be by the time it’s all done. But I know we will need help. ππΌ
