This December, I’ll have the incredible opportunity to travel to Honduras with peers from my Pa program through Global Brigades!
During our brigade, we’ll be working alongside local healthcare professionals and community members to help provide medical care and health education. Donations help support the operation of our medical clinic during the brigade, but they also contribute to sustainable, year-round programs to help the communities throughout Honduras. These programs include improving access to clean water, supporting sanitation and hygiene initiatives, and training community health works who can continue the supporting the community long after our brigade.
I know this experience will challenge me to grow not only in my clinical knowledge, but also in my ability to communicate, adapt, serve, and better understand the barriers that can affect a person’s health. These are all skills I hope to carry with me throughout my career and use to become the kind of PA who treats each patient with compassion and considers the whole person, not just their diagnosis.
