Small family Wisconsin dairy farm in need of help due to barn roof failure from snow! Hi my name is Sarah & this is my husband Lance’s farm located near Elderon, Wisconsin.

What do you do when everything you did to make sure you had protection fails?!  You saved for a rainy day but medical costs ate it up.  You got insurance but it had sneaky loopholes? Your county isn’t declared a federal disaster area so no federal help is available.

My family really needs help for a barn roof that collapsed under the weight heavy snow that came recently in Wisconsin.  All our reserve funds were depleted helping me through TWO bouts with cancer this last 12 months & three major surgeries that took extensive funds to get me to Milwaukee for treatment, travel etc. we were hit with a wreck that totaled out a vehicle & then the next day due to 33” of wet heavy snow 3/4 of our dairy barn roof collapsed the same barn needed to house cows, and milk them in.

We are not rich people, but we are honest people who really need help.  And we can’t wait.   The rest of the barn could collapse.

We are not a mega farm. We milk, a small number head of cows, both of us work out because we are buying back a 4th gen family family farm and so my husbands two sons have health insurance.

The same barn that houses our small dairy heard is where we milk them is what 1/2 collapsed.  Our farm still allows my husbands dad now in his 80s to live at home we pay his electric and bring him food weekly to help out in addition to paying for our home 1/4 mile away.   We hold up a lot with our little milking operation.

We have insurance on the barn.  We were not careless.  However insurance won’t cover a collapse due to snow.

Here is where we are:  due to a post I made we got someone to come help get the roof off coming up next week and now are looking to earn, save & raise funds for a replacement roof.

We have been calling, texting and talking to  everyone we think  might be able to help.   Some offers come with price tags insurance won’t cover but are BEYOND generous and fair.  Between the insurance company issue & us using up any reserve funds helping me the last 12 months we are short to accomplish what we need to.

I’d be willing to trade help for serious photography work, scanning & digitizing your family photos or truck driving my husband has a CDL with an impeccable record and has wonderful animal husbandry skills.  Also simple straightforward donations are also appreciated.

Prayers and good intentions also welcome.  God bless you for reading & caring.

Hello everyone.  I’m posting a barn roof update.  Levi Fernald from Antigo helped us lift the collapse off.  Trusses have been paid for, currently waiting on them to be done.  An Amish outfit near Shawano is making them.  We have ordered a portion of the lumbar.  Our next hurdles are tin (the roof) and equipment to do the work.  So far the local rentals seem to be out of our budget. Does anyone know of an affordable place to rent A 30ton skytrac rental for a week and a 60' genie boom lift for a week? Or someone willing to donate the usage of either or both for a week.  We are also looking for sources for affordable metal roofing.  Thank you.  Sarah & Lance. 920-634-9257

Thanks to people sharing our story men with equipment have agreed to come help lift the collapse off the barn.  It’s a big step in a positive direction.  Thank you for sharing our story.  I also took Lance’s number off he was getting overwhelmed with calls and still trying to work & milk.  My number is still good and I can get him messages or you can email or messenger him.
