Steve Whitaker, drummer and founding member of legendary christian metal pioneers, Barren Cross, died November 6, 2025 of ALS. It was a multi year battle and Steve fought it for as long as his body and mind could bear. He served God, loved his family and wrote some of Barren Cross's most recognizable songs, touching hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people across the world. Friends describe him as a lion, loyal, and dedicated to his family and the Lord.
ALS is a terrible disease as it robs you of your ability to walk, control your limbs, and finally your heart and brain. For the last 6 months of his life, Steve was bedridden and unable to walk. He didn't complain; his one request was to watch the sunrise. Steve's wife, Christy, made that a possibility for him on several occasions. She stayed by his side constantly, never leaving him, and in the meantime their finances were hit hard. And now, Steve's family needs our help in paying for the medical bills and other expenses incurred during the fight for Steve's life. Join us in donating money to help Mrs. Whitaker. His family needs you now. Help carry her burden by donating whatever you can.
We want to thank all the fans of Barren Cross for your dedication and everyone who has prayed and supported us in this time.
In Steve's words: "Here I am. Send your almighty power to come over me. Here I am. Take all of me. You've given me everything I'll ever need."
