My friend Lea from my Peace Corps days serving as a Maternal Child Health Volunteer became a nurse, raised her daughter by farming and working at the hospital. These past few years have made it nearly impossible to pay her son's school fees with inflation. Lea & her daughter Tuli in 1998-2000Lea took the initiative and started a small business with funds I sent. I and my former site mate Nicole "Nico" have assisted her when we can. Recently, she had to evacuate her rental in the middle of the night because the government did not pay her months wages. I witnessed this myself while serving in the US Peace Corps. I would like to raise funds starting with Lea and women I encounter working hard as single wage earners for their families. We all know the value of education and having a stable income, home. In 1998 Lea welcomed me into her home and became a dear friend teaching me how to cook and care for myself and share in friendship. Lea was a health assistant conducting HIV-AIDS prevention education at the time never hesitating to help her fellow Malawians or welcome a new friend.
