11/27/2024 Update:

Toby has a deformed femur. There is no past trauma or breaks so more than likely he was born with it. He has arthritis already and its only expected to get worse -- he will need to be on pain medications for the rest of his life.
There is no way to fix it other than amputating his leg -- which from our understanding is not dire or required right now, the concern is the arthritis.

Medical Costs:
X-rays: $560
Bloodwork and pain meds: $220.06
Neuter & Vaccines: $201

Hello neighbors!

My name is Kay-Lynn and my mother, Lorri and I are independent fosters/rescuers. This is our first medical foster and could really use some help getting this guy healthy and on his paws to get him to a good home.

I first saw Toby off Bundy Canyon (dangerous road) on Sunday night just sitting in the bushes and weeds along the road beside himself. It broke my heart. I was unable to catch him but myself and another driver who stopped were able to get him away from the road. He was terrified.

The next day we saw a post that he was in someone’s yard.

Tuesday morning, we saw three posts in our neighborhood Facebook groups of him wandering around. That morning through the help of neighbors we tracked him down and gave him breakfast. He was skittish and ran away. So we decided to come at lunch.

My mother went at lunch time and found him and was able to start gaining his trust. I joined her and after an hour, we were able to get him in our car and off the streets.

We immediately noticed that he was limping on his back right leg and his ears were bleeding. That same day we took him to the vet and X-rays are required to determine what is wrong with his leg. The vet suspects it may be an old break that has healed but needs X-rays to confirm. His ears also look to have intentional trauma - both have the exact same injury in the exact same spot on each ears; more than likely it was done by a human as it’s too precise to be from another animal or some type of accident.

In his few days with us he has really become comfortable and is such a sweet and happy boy. We don’t know what happened to him but he is dog friendly and all he wants to do is please. As we are learning more about Toby and what he needs to go to a good home, we want to ensure he gets the care he needs too and ensure his health and happiness.

Costs:
X-rays: $550-$725
Vaccines: $50
Neuter: $155

We thank our community for always helping and supporting our work to help local animals. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Toby has been reported found to AFV, PawBoost, PetFBI and Nextdoor. We had a couple leads but then ended up not being the same dog. Neighbors where he was rescued do not recognize him. Due to his medical issues and trauma, we have come to the conclusion he was dumped or ran away and the person does not want him back.

On 12/12/2024, Toby was neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. We have had one rescue reach out to us and they cannot back us and do not have any foster for him but may be willing to do a courtesy post and screen applications for us. This is not definite and still a work in progress.
