My sons Malachi, Eli, and I bought our first home in 2021. We were excited to finally have a home of our very own and steady housing. However, after settling in I started to recognize that the house was actually not in as good of condition as it had been advertised. The start of the problems in the home occurred when the electricity went out in Malachi’s room. With the help of my brother, my children and I had been able to patch up some things in the house to keep our basic necessities operating.
My son Malachi and I were making plans together to save money to either repair our current home or buy a new home. He had plans to get a part time job once he was of age to work. Unfortunately our dreams and lives were turned upside down when my son went to a sleepover and died in a carbon monoxide poisoning accident shortly after his 16th birthday on Feb 5 2023. We are still devastated by the loss of such a kind hearted big dreamer.
Days after Malachi’s funeral service, my uncle and cousin came with an electrician to evaluate the condition of my home. The electrician reported that my breaker box is out of code and it is a brand that is known for causing many house fires. Since then, our electrical issues have continued to get worse and we are unable to do laundry, heat our home, or use the stove in addition to many other safety issues. I am constantly worrying about electrical fires starting and losing what little shelter we have, or worse losing my son Eli as well.
We have been searching for a used mobile home within this budget. However, the ones in my range have gotten sold before I can go look at them, or they are in disrepair. The safe used mobile homes we have looked at are slightly out of my current price range.
I currently hold a part time job, so that I can be at home more to support Eli after the passing of Malachi. At this point I can not get approval for another home loan.
So I am asking for help to help raise money so we can get out of this death trap of a home before another tragedy happens. I appreciate any help my little family can get.
