During the recent protests in Iran, Erfan was struck in the face by a tear gas cartridge fired by security forces, resulting in the loss of his right eye. Erfan is now outside of Iran, where he can access the necessary medical care, but the costs are overwhelming for his family. The required surgeries and treatments to save what remains of his vision and to address the trauma he has endured are beyond their financial reach.

Hundreds of Iranian protesters, many of them young, have suffered debilitating injuries as security forces have used brutal tactics to suppress their voices.
