Hi everyone, my name is Autumn, and I’m honored to be presenting the Jacqueline Barrera Memorial Distinguished Student Award at Stony Brook University’s Occupational Therapy Program on May 14th.
This scholarship was created in memory of my grandmother, Jacqueline Barrera, to recognize students who demonstrate strength, dedication, and perseverance—especially during challenging times.
My grandmother, Jacqueline Barrera, was dedicated to helping others regain independence while working in a traumatic brain injury unit. She always said she was an OT, because at heart, she truly was.
After being diagnosed with cancer in 2011, Stony Brook honored her with an honorary Master’s in Occupational Therapy before she passed. They also created this award in her name to recognize students who show strength, perseverance, and compassion, just like she did.
At the ceremony, I will be delivering a speech in her honor and presenting this award to a deserving student. To continue her legacy, I am raising funds to support this scholarship and also contribute to the Occupational Therapy program at Stony Brook, helping provide resources and equipment for future students.
This means so much to me and my family. It’s a way to keep her memory alive while making a real impact on others.
If you’re able to donate or share, I would be so grateful. Every contribution helps continue something truly special in her name.
Thank you so much for your support 🤍 Autumn
