On July 1, my 9 year old child, Aeris, attempted suicide. She spent 2 days in the hospital and two weeks in an inpatient facility in the Denver area. It was the scariest thing I've ever been through as a parent, and now that my other kids and I are trying to cope and get her help outside of the facility, we have come to realize that there are very limited resources and support for children under 13 and their families. The number of resources is even smaller for an LGBTQ+ child, such as mine. We struggled to find adequate therapy services for Aeris, and support services for myself and their siblings. The Trevor Project stepped in and assisted in getting resources for all of us, as well as resources to help us navigate difficult topics, like coming out at school and handling bullying. In thanks, we are turning this tragedy into an event of awareness and prevention for adolescent suicide. All proceeds will be donated to The Trevor Project in honor and behalf of Aeris.
There is a live event planned on October 17th. If you'd prefer to show your support in person, we'd be thrilled to see you there.
