Ruperto Angulo took his last breath on May 15, only six days after the tragic loss of his daughter, Mel Catubig. Ruperto passed away right across the hospital room where his daughter passed and also died of cancer.
Ruperto Angulo was born on August 13, 1933 in Trujillo, Peru to Angela Arrunategui and Ruperto Angulo I. He is the oldest son of eight and constantly worked multiple blue-collar jobs to provide for his mom and all of his 8 siblings.
Ruperto and Elena, his wife of 54 years, immigrated to the United States in 1979 to create a better life for their two daughters, Mel and Rosa. Ruperto was a proud US Citizen and never failed to represent the American flag.
Up until his death, Ruperto lived with his wife, Elena, daughter, and grandaughter Raquel, in San Francisco's Mission District at the famously known '20th' house.
Ruperto was well known in the Mission District and the entire San Francisco community. Business owners knew him by name and so did friends and teachers of his grandchildren. People knew him as 'Papi Rucky' or the old man from the movie Up. Despite him not knowing English, he made an effort to converse with people. He made his presence known without even trying.
He was a great father who did what he could to provide for his family. He worked at the Ferry Building as a kitchen staff member for over 20+ years. But that's not all--Ruperto served as a caretaker for his mother Angela, whom he shared a close bond with.
Ruperto loved nothing more in this world than being a grandpa. He loved dropping off and picking up his grandchildren from school. He would always drop them off in the car blasting Abba. He also made sure to make every award ceremony, basketball game, theatre performance, etc. He was a proud grandfather and loved celebrating all of his grandchildren's accomplishments. He was especially looking forward to attending his two grandkids' graduation on May 21st.
Also, those who know him know how big of a warriors fan he was. He was the most loyal fan there was and never missed a game. The San Francisco community will not be the same without 'Rucky' but his legacy will continue to live on through his grandchildren.
