I'm raising funds to help my friend, Salifu Swallah Lukeman, 45, who had a massive stroke nearly 3 months ago. Mr. Salifu is currently in a hospital near Accra, Ghana. He's in desperate need of medicine as his family is poor. The "Blacks" hospital he's at in Ghana provide "pay per service" only treatment for poor people.
Hello. My name is Mark Lukey. I live in Juneau, Alaska. I'm friends with Mr. Salifu. We met through a mutual friend that I met at work a few years ago.
Mr. Salifu was recovering from being beaten by thugs in the city and tending to his chickens when the stroke occurred. His wife didn't understand what was happening to her husband and their only vehicle was not working. The nearest treatment was 50 miles away and it was hours before Mr. Salifu got to the hospital. By then the damage was done. The stroke left Mr. Salifu completely paralyzed on the left hand side of his body and he is unable to talk.
Ghana is a corrupt country and the politics there are quite unsettling. "Rich" people get preferential treatment in hospitals and families of the victims can't help because they are poor too.
I listed 382.00 USD ( 5200 Cedis ) but any amount helps, even 20 bucks! Ideally, Mr. Salifu would be in the other "Government" hospital getting proper treatment in their stroke department but for now, he is in the "Blacks" hospital where he is provided a bed and only gets medicine if it's paid for with cash.
I chatted with Mrs Salifu this morning. She's been helping her husband the best she can with little to no knowledge of how to care for a stroke victim and can't buy the anti-clotting, diabetes and muscle spasm drugs Mr. Salifu needs. She's extremely worried about his condition and is afraid he's going to die if he doesn't get medicine soon.
The upside to this story is that the medications are relatively inexpensive compared to America. It's amazing to me what even 100.00 usd will buy!
The Salifu's have never asked me directly for any money. They are a proud religious family. Often they will send me a message that opens with "Hello Sir Mark" and will say something about Mr. Salifu. Only recently have the directly asked for help because I think things are getting desperate for them and Mr. Salifu is dying without his medication. Please, I know this sounds like the biggest scam ever but I assure you it's not. I will post updates and pictures. Please help! -Mark
