Help James & Mamie Wright Rebuild Their Home After Losing Everything in a House Fire
On the evening of April 25, 2025, James Wright (83) and his wife Mamie Barber-Wright (77) were leaving for church when tragedy struck. In a matter of moments, their beloved home of decades at 110 Miner Road in Boynton Beach, FL was engulfed in flames.
James and Mamie built their life and family within those walls. They raised four children there, and their home was the heart of countless gatherings with grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years. Every corner of that house held memories — birthdays, Sunday dinners, and the sound of family laughter.
James has called Boynton Beach home for over 60 years. A proud retiree of Cemex, he is known for his hard work and kindness. Mamie, retired from the Palm Beach County School District, spent her career caring for children and guiding young minds.
That morning, as they headed to worship, flames ripped through their home with terrifying speed. The fire tore open the roof, melted and blackened ceilings, and destroyed nearly every possession they owned. Inside, precious photographs, keepsakes, and the simple comforts of home were reduced to ash.
The devastation is overwhelming:
• The roof is ripped open, exposing beams and insulation to the elements.
• Walls and furniture are scorched beyond recognition.
• Rooms are filled with debris, the remains of a lifetime’s belongings.
Since the fire, James and Mamie have been staying in a small hotel room, thanks to the generosity of their daughters Cassandra and Nedrika, along with support from family, friends and their church.
Now, there is a spark of hope. Matthew Wingate, owner of Unlisted Construction, has generously vowed to help complete the rebuilding of their home. Donations to this campaign will be used to assist with construction costs and to provide continued housing for James and Mamie over the course of the next year while their home is restored.
James and Mamie have given so much to their family, community, and church. Now, in their golden years, instead of enjoying the comfort of the home they worked so hard for, they are faced with unimaginable loss. Every donation — no matter the size — will bring them one step closer to returning home.
Please donate and share their story. Together, we can turn this heartbreaking loss into a story of faith, resilience, and community love.
From tragedy, we can rebuild hope — together.
